How long a refund takes
Refund timing depends largely on how you filed. A paper return generally takes longer for the IRS to process — expect your refund check within roughly six to eight weeks of filing. E-filed returns move faster, typically processing within two to three weeks, and choosing direct deposit shaves that down further, often to about a week once the return is accepted.
Errors, missing information, or a return flagged for additional review can extend any of these timelines, which is one more reason an accurate, complete return matters from the start.
Check your status directly
The fastest way to get a real answer is to check directly with the taxing authority rather than guess:
- Federal refunds: Use the IRS "Where's My Refund?" tool at irs.gov/refunds, or the IRS2Go mobile app. You'll need your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact refund amount from your return.
- State refunds: Florida does not assess a personal state income tax, so most CCG clients only track a federal refund. If you file a return in another state, check that state's Department of Revenue website for its own refund-tracking tool.
